MyTV and the Story of Vietnamese Businesses Overcoming Difficulties to Master Technology
From the early days of having to rent and depend entirely on foreign television technology, VNPT's team of experts and engineers have researched, learned, and gradually mastered and developed their own system. From there, they optimized the service and brought the best experience to customers. This is also the reason why, in just a short time, VNPT's MyTV television has achieved rapid growth in one year equal to the cumulative growth of ten years and still maintains strong growth prospects in the coming time.
Overcoming Difficulties to Assert Themselves
Officially launched in September 2009, MyTV television carries the desire to bring a television service that provides useful information and entertainment, promptly serving the best and fastest "spiritual food" for Vietnamese people. By being customer-centric, putting customer interests first, and regularly updating and adding new content sources to keep that "spiritual food" always fresh and attractive, MyTV has gradually become a close companion to Vietnamese families every day.
After only one year of launching, in 2010, MyTV recorded its first 500,000 subscribers, deployed over 60 domestic and international television channels, and became present in all 63 provinces. In the following years, with partnerships with domestic and foreign entities and investment in both content and technology, MyTV television developed extremely strongly. By 2015, this service officially reached 1 million subscribers with 125 domestic and international television channels with HD and SD signals, becoming the IPTV technology pay television provider with the largest market share in Vietnam, and was certified as a service making an important contribution to socio-economic development in the period 2011-2015. By 2017, the number of official subscribers of VNPT reached 1.5 million, becoming a pioneering multi-platform television and entertainment service with the leading market share in Vietnam.
However, after this period of strong development, the pay television market in Vietnam gradually entered a period of saturation, and competition between service providers became fiercer. By the end of 2018, the number of MyTV subscribers dropped below 1 million, which was also the time when VNPT made a series of unprecedented drastic changes to this strategic service. Changes occurred simultaneously in three areas: customer experience, technology, content, and sales strategy. Up to now, MyTV has nearly 6 million subscribers and promises to still have significant room for development in the near future. With the current growth rate, VNPT has many expectations to create more breakthroughs in the future.
The Motivation Behind MyTV's Strong Growth
Sharing about the journey upstream in just a short time, a representative of VNPT said: "VNPT is a technology enterprise, so all of our changes start from technology factors. Previously, at the time of launch, MyTV still used IPTV television technology imported from abroad. This is a closed technology, meaning that when you want to make any changes to the system, foreign experts must come to support you, and the technology at that time had not kept up with advanced television technology trends in the world. Dependence on foreign technology is a weakness that will hinder MyTV's long-term development. Therefore, VNPT built a team of high-quality experts and engineers to research and develop a multi-platform television ecosystem according to world technology trends, completely replacing foreign technology from terminal equipment to the core system providing services. This was not easy, but when completed, the results exceeded expectations. Mastering technology not only helps eliminate dependence on foreign countries but also helps businesses save huge costs in the process of investing in and operating services."
Currently, MyTV has completely mastered technology. The transmission line to each subscriber is currently at 100 Mb/s (QoS) and will be gradually raised to 250 Mb/s in the near future. Not only improving transmission quality, MyTV also deploys new utilities and features to optimize the customer's service experience, such as: reviewing broadcasted TV programs for up to 72 hours, fast forwarding, rewinding, saving stops; features that increase convenience for users such as: remote control by smartphone, casting, general viewing, user personalization, smart suggestions based on algorithms processing customer behavior data, proactive channel number changes, saving channel lists and favorite content. These features have helped this service score points with customers in recent times.
In particular, the content on MyTV is provided in Full HD format, with many programs using complex effects in 4K quality, such as the famous Japanese series and movie Kamen Rider, bringing extremely satisfying experiences to viewers.
In terms of content, compared to when it launched with only 36 television channels, MyTV currently owns nearly 180 domestic and international television channels, ensuring a content library of up to hundreds of thousands of hours of broadcast. Through many forms of cooperation, from purchasing the right to stream live quality sports tournaments to purchasing broadcast rights from major stations, MyTV currently owns specialized channels that are loved by fans, such as SPOTV, VTVcab, and K+, connecting users directly to the world's leading tournaments such as the World Cup, Nations League, UEFA Euro, FA Football Cup, AFC U23 Asian Cup, AFC Futsal Asian Cup, Saudi Pro League, MotoGP racing, table tennis, tennis, and golf.
Constantly innovating technology, rich and unique in content, with a 24/7 customer service call center system to answer all customer questions, MyTV always aims to become an ecosystem platform. Focusing on the best content and meeting all audience needs anytime, anywhere, MyTV hopes to continue receiving the trust and support of television audiences nationwide in the coming time.
