By 2025, VNPT Group Will Triple 5G Coverage
The Government's national digital infrastructure strategy for 2025, with a vision extending to 2030, has established that by 2030, 5G networks must be widely deployed, ensuring coverage for 99% of the population.
In particular, Resolution No. 57/NQ-TU defines the goal for 2030 as follows: “An advanced, modern digital technology infrastructure with super-large capacity and super-wide bandwidth, on par with advanced countries; gradually mastering a number of strategic digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), big data, cloud computing, blockchain, semiconductors, quantum technology, nano, 5G, 6G mobile information, satellite information, and other emerging technologies. Nationwide 5G coverage…” To implement this strategy, the Group has extended 5G coverage to all central areas of 63 provinces and cities, as well as all 705 district-level administrative units and key locations such as industrial parks, airports, and political centers. Currently, VinaPhone has approximately 3 million subscribers using 5G services with additional charges, out of a total of 5 million subscribers with 5G devices.
Recently, alongside expanding 5G coverage, VNPT has collaborated with foreign technology partners to develop and implement a 5G business strategy aimed at exploring new business opportunities in areas such as data centers, AI factories, Network APIs, satellites, and applications for vertical industries. The Group also promotes cooperation in sharing 4G and 5G infrastructure with other network operators to reduce costs and expand coverage. Notably, VNPT will provide internet connection services on Vietnam Airlines aircraft and deploy digital infrastructure, mobile network coverage, and free Wi-Fi systems at various airports operated by Vietnam Airports Corporation, focusing on Long Thanh International Airport.
This year, VNPT aims to triple its 5G coverage, targeting 99% population coverage in line with the objectives of Resolution No. 57/NQ-TU. Additionally, VNPT continues to test and develop advanced 5G services for its customers. The Group has also planned for digital infrastructure development for the 2026-2030 period, with an upgrade and expansion of IT infrastructure capacity by 10-15% compared to 2024, to meet the production and business operation needs of the Group in 2025. "By officially providing VinaPhone 5G service, VNPT reaffirms its role as a core national telecommunications enterprise while demonstrating its commitment to maintaining its position as Vietnam's leading access service provider, continuously delivering the best services and experiences to customers," stated VNPT Group General Director Huynh Quang Liem.
